Tropics Tanning Centres
Tropics Facilities

Our tanning options range from relaxing double canopy beds to the latest stand-up (sun-shower) beds, giving you the opportunity to get, or maintain, that holiday glow at any time of the year.

Tropics Safety

Before you use a sunbed you must first obtain a Leisure Card. This card is free and available from reception at your local Leisure Centre, Community Centre or Swimming Pool.

Alternatively you can complete an online application form.

You can apply online for a Leisure Card with Topics membership by clicking on one of the links below. Each one opens the same form, they can just be viewed in 3 different ways:

Once your Leisure Card is set up and you have completed the tanning declaration form, confirming you have read the safety information and you are satisfied that you are suitable for UVA suntanning treatment you are ready to go!

A fully trained member of staff at your local Tropics Tanning Centre will then give you information on how to use the sunbed and you can get to work on your tan.

Tan Gently

We recommend you follow the exposure times given and that you do not exceed 20 sessions per year. We also insist that you do not have more than one session in any 24 hours.

After 20 sessions you will be reminded that you have completed the maximum number of sessions per year as recommended by the Health and Safety Executive.

It is our duty to remind you when you have reached the maximum number of sessions as recommended by the Health and Safety Executive.

Protect Your Eyes
Disposable eye goggles are available, free of charge and must be worn all the time the equipment is switched on. Goggles or winkees will help prevent eye damage.
Protect Your Skin

As with all types of tanning, your skin tone will provide you with a certain level of natural protection against damage. However, as skin tones vary you must adopt the level of exposure that is right for you.

The exposure time chart below is only a guide and you should always adopt a common sense approach. If you feel you do not fit into one of the categories, you should seek medical advice or adopt the most sensible option.

You are advised NOT to use sunbeds if:

  • You are under 18 years
  • You have fair sensitive skin that burns easily or tans slowly or poorly
  • You have a history of sunburn, especially in childhood
  • You have a large number of freckles and/or red hair
  • You have a large number of moles
  • You are taking medicines or using creams which may sensitise the skin to sunlight
  • You have a medical condition that is worsend by sunlight
  • You or anyone in your family have had any form of skin cancer in the past

If you have any doubts as to whether you can use tanning equipment, please seek medical advice from your doctor or pharmacist. Further advice on safe tanning can be found on the Health & Safety Executive posters within each tanning room at our centres.

* We recommend that you discuss the risks with your GP before you spend time in the sun or on a subed. On your first few visits we recommend that you reduce your exposure time to a comfortable level. As your tan improves gradually increase your exposure time.

The above is only a guide. Adopt a common sense approach to your tanning programme - use sunbeds in moderation - take care not to burn.
