Former England international Colette Thomson has launched a new scheme to improve the quality of netball coaching in Birmingham.
The Netball Coach Mentoring Scheme is funded by Birmingham City Council’s Sports Development Programme, which currently coaches over 1,000 young netballers across the city. Senior netball coaches will mentor new and inexperienced coaches for a period of 12 months, sharing with them their experience and skills and offering support and encouragement.
Colette, who played netball for England from 1972 until 1987, now coaches the England under 21 team. She says: “This is a wonderful opportunity to share ideas amongst a wide range of local coaches. Development of players and clubs within the area depends on providing a large number of good coaches to cope with the rising numbers of people of all ages involved in netball.” |
