Sport Birmingham
is a section of the Sport and Leisure Division, working city-wide
to improve opportunities for sport and physical activity.
Sport Birmingham brings together the functions of Sports Development,
Health and Fitness, Sports Policy and Projects, and Sports Events.
Our aim is to offer a range of appropriate programmes, services
and opportunities in order to maximise the number of people in
the City taking part in sport, physical activity and fitness.
We aim to enable participants to improve their physical health
status, their personal level of performance and achieve their
full potential.
The BCF is a constituted body, established in May 1999 to enhance
the development of sports coaches and coaching across all stages
of the sports development continuum for the City of Birmingham.

This website contains a number of new opportunities for coaches
including sports specific National Governing Body (NGB) of sport
coaching awards for beginners through to experienced coaches,
and supporting workshops and seminars of interest to all coaches.
Also included within the brochure are a variety of ‘Coaching
for Teachers’ courses, which are aimed at both teachers
and Adults Other Than Teachers (AOTT’s) involved in coaching
extra curricular sporting activities in school. For more information

On Sunday 28 March 2004 at the University of Birmingham the second
Birmingham Coaches Conference will be held.
Whether you are currently an unqualified coach, a newly qualified
coach or a well experienced and highly qualified coach –
this will be the place to be!
The City of Birmingham Coach Profile Form has now been finalised
and is being distributed to all coaches who live or are actively
coaching within the City of Birmingham. The City of Birmingham
Coach Database now holds details of over 400 coaches, leaders
or instructors who have completed and returned the Coach Profile
Form across a variety of sports. For more information click the

Coaches are required for the sports of Athletics, Badminton,
Basketball, Cricket, Football, Golf, Gymnastics, Hockey, Netball,
Rugby, Swimming and Tennis.

After two years of hard work and consultation the Birmingham
Coach Registration Scheme is finally being piloted with the coaches
involved in the Birmignham Active Sports Programme (athletics,
basketball, girl’s football, hockey, netball, rugby union,
and swimming).
The scheme has been co-ordinated to establish quality assurance
that develops the provision of sports coaching within the City

The Active Sports Programme aims to help young people with the
ability and desire to improve their skills, by means of a co-ordinated
programme across England that will provide wider access to organised
sport.

The Birmingham Sports Council was established in 1970 by Birmingham
City Council as an independent forum for sport where governing
bodies of sport, City Councillors and other voluntary organisations
can meet to discuss common problems and build on common interests.
